Weber: Clarinet Concertos

'Sabine Meyer’s technical brilliance is indisputable and impressive and her playing in this programme of Weber’s concertante works for clarinet is a delight to hear. The excellent recordings also do justice to the highly individual sounds of Weber’s orchestra.’ --Gramophone

In formal terms, Weber’s clarinet concertos adhere to Classical concerto structure, but they literally brim with the expressive diversity of the High Romantic era. Weber makes such eloquent use of the quasi-vocal properties of the clarinet that the only thing the instrument is missing is an ability to actually speak. These Electrola recordings from 1985/86 show once more that Sabine Meyer not only has sovereign command of her craft, but also possesses a scenic presence that is vividly conveyed even on record.
